UP? You're joking right? Colchester would be nice as he can then pop in for a cuppa after training

They were linked to him last season so with relegation I think it's quite likely.

Northern, Peter Taylor was not a great success at Dover despite his pedigree.... who was/is your mate may I ask?

Absolutely MAJESTIC footballer years ahead of his time, lovely man, and by all accounts done a top job there.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up

I'd love him to get a League team and bring them to Upton Park in the cup (any cup) next season.

Been approached by another club, wanted to speak to them and so rejected new Braintree deal. I do wonder if its Colchester United, looking like league 2 next season.

Re: Devo leaves Braintree Town
We'd have him down at Dover Athletic but surely he must want to manage a league club.

Devo was the best winger/midfielder I can remember at the Boleyn. The boys of 86 season was one of his finest, overlapping wing play down both flanks with endless crosses into Cottee and Macca were my overriding memory. Devo would pop up on either wing with and always seem to get his cross in.

He will never be a great manager, that would have happened by now, a coaching role at the Boleyn would satisfy the sentimental nature of some Hammers fans but, whilst he has done OK a non league level, we are a premiership club, the step up would be too great IMHO

If he shed half his body weight, grew his hair and tache back he could still play and be more effective than Nolan.

Actually wouldn't need to lose weight.

Alan Devonshire will not be leading Braintree Town into a fifth year in the Vanarama Conference Premier as the Iron's manager.

The Times exclusively revealed yesterday that the club had given Devonshire a deadline to decide if he wanted to accept a new contract offer made by them.

However he has declined that offer and they are now looking for a new permanent boss.

The team will be led by Braintree Town Academy manager Mark Sansom for their trip to Wrexham on Saturday and the final game of the season against Altrincham on April 25.

Chairman Lee Harding said: "We had a lengthy chat with Alan on Saturday and advised him that we would like him to remain with us for a fifth year.

"Alan advised that he had been approached by third parties for next season and was not prepared to sign as he felt that he wanted to speak with them.

"We agreed to give him until Thursday evening to consider our offer, but he was still not prepared to sign.

"The board have therefore decided to ask Mark Sansom to act in a caretaker role for Saturday's trip to Wrexham and at home to Altrincham a week on Saturday.

"On behalf of all of us, I'd like to thank Alan for his efforts over the four seasons he was with us, more so this season when a number of injuries have made the job difficult.

"But now the board look forward to a new era and new challenges."

Sir Trev as Director of Football with Devo as first team coach, keep Teddy as forwards coach for a bit of continuity.

All those years ago, we took a punt on Ron Greenwood...

If I was on anything stronger than alcohol, I'd be believing Devo will take over, and lead us to unheard of glory.

If...

What would a caretaker manager do for the rest of the season I wonder

Valencia up with Cole throw caution to the wind and go for an attacking formation, tough one
